DIVING ADVENTURES

Nanaimo has a sunken tug to explore in Departure Bay and two sunken naval ships near Snake Island. Even if you're not a diver, you can snorkel with the seals near Snake Island. Dive charter companies will take you there.

(Check the Fishing Regulations re Crab sizes and types before you leave…) If all fails, Margaret's Fish Boat (sells freshly caught seafood) at Fisherman's Dock (Inner Harbor) She just may have a good substitute for the ones that got away.

MOUNT WASHINGTON Resort - a short 1.5 hour drive northward is well known for its great snow slopes and amenities. Good Parking with Shuttle service is available from its base to the lodge. There is also a bus shuttle service from Nanaimo to the mount. Equipment Rentals. Restaurants+++ Great for a day trip when the snow flies. ** Mt Washington is the premier resort on Vancouver Island, located in the Comox Valley west of Courtenay. The snow here is often deeper than anywhere else in British Columbia, and occasionally deeper than anywhere else in the world!

MOUNT CAIN and area - about a 1.75 hours drive northward. Nice slopes, smaller ski area than Mt. Washington, but has other advantages it is located in Mt. Cain Regional Park, off Highway 19 north of Campbell River, and is run by the non-profit Mt. Cain Alpine Park Society. It is Vancouver Island's only community owned and operated ski and snowboard facility, with plenty of enjoyable and challenging runs.
